Celebrating diversity in photography
Tomayia Colvin is a nationally published high school senior portrait photographer, best-selling children’s book author, classroom teacher, and photography educator in Houston, Texas. For five years, Tomayia has been giving her high school seniors carefree, funky, and real portrait sessions that showcase their unique personalities.
Tomayia is on a mission to celebrate diversity in photography. She works with conferences & workshop organizers to bridge the color division and to include voices that are missing from the photography industry.
While on this mission, she founded Tomayia Colvin Education, an online education platform for photographers, so that others can learn how to run a successful photography business while being inclusive. From body positivity to the LGBTQ+ community, Tomayia encourages photographers to create a business that honors and showcases diversity.
In addition to creating Tomayia Colvin Education, she's been an instructor at WPPI, an educator for Imaging USA, United hosted by Showit, and a host of others.
Tomayia has been featured in articles in Professional Photography Magazine, Rangefinder Magazine, ShootProof, Black Enterprise, local newspapers, and radio stations across the Houston area.
When Tomayia isn't busy capturing high school seniors personalities, she's busy being a mom to two dynamic kids and shuffling them from basketball practice to Cub Scouts. She lives for the car rider line, Dr. Pepper, and making blue jeans, Converse, and t-shirts the new business casual.
Tomayia's currently a doctoral student at Houston Baptist University studying educational leadership.
